Kaiser was born in February 2018. He is an Ardent Haus puppy from Ardent Haus German Shepherds in Iowa. Kaiser is a black and cream saddle-back. His papers list his color as black and tan, but he has changed colors, as you can see in his pictures. He weighs 105-115 pounds. Kaiser is a stunning male and produces beautiful babies.
Kaiser enjoys playing with our grandchildren. He absolutely LOVES to play in water! His new thing that he enjoys is riding in the side-by-side. He is very loving and gentle. Kaiser loves meeting new people and thinks that the only reason we get visitors is because people are coming to see him.
Testing: Kaiser has had his Embark testing completed and he is completely clear of over 200 genetic health conditions that Embark tests for. Kaiser's DM test was normal and he is a non-carrier. That means he can only transmit the normal gene to his offspring, and is unlikely that he or his offspring will ever develop DM. His DM test results from OFA is posted below. Kaiser's PennHIP distraction index was 0.35. His PennHIP test is shown below.
Robin Krumm of Royalair German Shepherds was trying to find a conversion to the OFA equivalent, with no luck so here is what she came up with (I am using this conversion with permission). Since we are really only concerned with the normal range for the breed, logically:
0.250 to 0.397 = Excellent (Kaiser, Duke, and Bear)
0.398 to 0.545 = Good
0.546 to 0.69 = Fair
Anything better than 0.249 is obviously rare right now, but would be Superb if OFA were to go there. Kaiser, Duke, and Bear are all excellent as the norm stands. This scale will shift over time, hopefully toward the lower end of the scale, if breeders continue to persevere in the efforts to improve this trait.
Duke was born in June 2023. He is a Schutzhaus/Sackett puppy. His mother is our Greta, and his father is Sackett Shepherd's male, Bear. Duke is a very large black and tan saddle-back. At 8 months old, Duke weighed 93 pounds, and is very tall. We predict that Duke will mature to approximately 130+ pounds. Duke is very gentle and loving, just like his parents. They do not get any sweeter than this big boy! Look at his soft eyes. He is working on obtaining his CGC title.
Duke is very intelligent and has been easy to train. He absolutely LOVES attention! His best friend is his aunt Dayna, who is the only one big enough to put him to the ground. He loves going shopping and everyone wants to pet him. Duke is a gentle giant!
Duke's DM test will be normal and he will be a non-carrier, because his parents are both normal, non-carriers. But, he will be tested soon. Duke's PennHIP testing is shown below. Just like his parent's, he has really good hips. Duke has also earned his CGC (Canine Good Citizen) title.
Bear is a Salhuas puppy and litter mate to our Tillie from Salhaus German Shepherds. Like all of our dogs, Bear has Royalair bloodlines. Bear is owned by our son and his family, Dale and Nikki Young. Bear was born in April 2021. Bear is a black and tan saddle-back. He weighs 115-125 pounds and still growing. Bear is a beautiful, large, traditional old-fashioned German Shepherd.
Bear is very calm and loving. He enjoys playing with his human children. Bear is one of the most laid-back males I have ever come in contact with. He is just the sweetest boy! You can tell by his eyes he is a gentle soul.
Testing: Bear's embark testing will be completed soon. However, based on his sister's embark testing, she is completely clear of over 200 genetic health conditions that Embark tests for, we are confident that Bear's will be just as good as Tillie's. Bear's DM test will be normal, and he will be a non-carrier based on his parentage, since neither parent are carriers of DM. That means he can only transmit the normal gene to his offspring, and is unlikely that he or his offspring will ever develop DM. Bear's PennHIP distraction index was 0.26. His PennHIP test is shown below.
